The policeman in action
The opening scene of Home and Away was a flashback to 1978. In the very first scene of the pilot episode, an 8 year old Frank Morgan was pursued and caught by a policeman. Despite his tender years, the policeman already seemed to know who Frank was and addressed him by name. In the very next scene, a social worker explained to Tom and Pippa Fletcher that Frank had already been arrested twice and gave a brief outline of his dysfunctional home life.
The policeman was played by Bruce Venables. He got to speak the first ever lines in the show. "Frankie!! Frankie!!" as he was chasing Frank in the flashback scene.
Bruce is married to Judy Nunn who also appeared in the pilot episode. She played Ailsa Stewart (née Hogan) until 2000. Bruce made further guest appearances on the show in the 1990s, though as different characters.
