Episode 857

Bye dad

Bobby arrives at Donald’s house just as he’s coming off the phone from Lucinda. It’s all over between her and Ryan and she is back with Nick again. It’s hard to keep up with them, Bobby wryly observes. She ain’t seen nothing yet… Anyway, she’s more interested in talking to her father about why he has resigned from the school.

Haydn calls down to the boat shed to help Michael. They seem to be getting on a little bit better but Michael still believes that keeping Haydn and Blake apart is the right thing to do. Education is very important and some day Haydn will thank him.

Sally talks to Sophie about Karen being sent to the detention centre. Sophie admits that people do silly thing when they’re in love. Sally says she’ll never fall in love because it’s really dumb! Pippa is going to call over to see Alf and Ailsa later. Michael tells her he doesn’t want to call over because he feels like a hypocrite. He feels sorry for them but he and Alf aren’t the same any more.

Alf, Ailsa and Blake arrive home after attending Karen’s hearing. Blake is surprisingly upbeat, which puzzles Alf. Ailsa assures him that this is his way of dealing with it.

At the diner, Bobby tells Grant that if her father won’t do anything about Lois Crawford and his enforced resignation, she will. Grant points out that Sam isn’t attending the school yet so she isn’t a concerned parent. She can’t fight her father’s battles for him.

Pippa (sans Michael) calls to see Ailsa. Ailsa feels guilty over letting Karen and her mother down. Ailsa is worried for Karen. She saw her just before they took her away and she was hard as nails. She doesn’t regret anything and if given half a chance she’d do it all over again. Ailsa predicts that if she doesn’t change she’ll be in and out of prison for the rest of her life.

The next morning, Bobby calls to see Pippa. Pippa admits she isn’t happy about Lois Crawford’s interference in people’s lives. Bobby wants Pippa to have the P&C protest against Crawford but Pippa isn’t up for it. But we as we know, when Bobby’s on a mission… Pippa agrees to hold a meeting to get an idea of how other parents feel about Crawford. What's more, Bobby will be at that meeting even though she isn't a parent of a student at the school. She is a citizen, which is the C part of P&C.

Haydn catches up with Blake outside the diner. Blake has been given the day off by Alf so he isn’t in school uniform. Haydn decides to bunk off school as well. As they walk, Haydn tells Blake that he’s planning to move back in with his mother. He doesn't get on with her either but it can be any worse than life with his father. He invites Blake to come with him but he says no. He will visit though.

Later, Michael meets Haydn who is walking along the road with a sports bag over his shoulder. They exchange a few words before Michael drives on, oblivious to what his son is planning. Haydn has left a note on the fridge for his father but Sally unwittingly covers it up with a letter from her teacher re. a school excursion. Pippa, meanwhile, is busy getting organised for this afternoon’s P&C meeting about Crawford.

The P&C meeting starts in the Surf Club. It turns out other parents aren’t happy about Crawford either. The meeting is interrupted by Donald himself. He defends Crawford and insists that whatever is decided at the meeting will have no bearing on his decision to resign. Alf doesn’t agree.

Back home, Pippa finally finds Haydn’s letter to Michael. When he opens it and begins to read, he learns that his son has gone back to live with Cynthia.
