Synopsis[]
Adam does some hard work for a change
Donald Fisher gives Haydn and Blake a dressing down for their part in Adam's Sands Resort prank. He tells them that the school caretaker is away for two weeks and that for one hour after school, they will assume many of his duties.
Word gets around that Adam has been sent a lettergram by Michael and is now digging a hole in the Caravan Park. He is having a tough time of it in the searing heat and has started developing blisters on his hands. Alf and Ailsa think Blake and Haydn are behind it but aren't too concerned. Neither is Donald. The general consensus is that Adam had it coming to him. The only dissenting voice is Sophie who points out that it's stopping him from doing his real job at the boatshed. Haydn isn't too worried because Adam hasn't done a tap of work since his dad went on his honeymoon.
Bobby is worried about how Sam is getting on at school and goes to check on him at lunchtime. She hides behind a tree and sees that he is managing just fine. He seems to have made two friends already. This is all leading to Ailsa and Donald to worry about how Bobby will cope when Sam has to go back to his real mother. She and Sam have become very attached to each other. He has already told her he doesn't want to go back to live with his mother but wants to stay with Bobby and Donald.
Alf and Ailsa admit to each other that the last thing they want to do is go on the camping trip. They decide to sound out Blake and Karen later later and hopefully talk them out of it. They tell some camping horror stories but to no avail. While Karen takes the hint, Blake thinks they're just making them aware of what they'll be facing out in the bush.
Blake and Haydn turn up the heat on Adam. A second lettergram comes for him, saying Michael has changed his mind and that he now wants the hole dug nearer to the house. Blake and Haydn stop to chat to him. Naturally, they'd love to help but they're now on detention. While he's talking to them, he drops his t-shirt on the ground and doesn't notice a set of keys falling out of it. Blake does and quickly pockets them. Adam only realises the keys are missing when Haydn asks for a loan of them - he needs then to get into the boatshed and take his surf ski out. Adam freaks out - has he buried the keys in the bottom of the first hole?
